What Archie Gray did away from the cameras at full-time on his Leeds United return

Leeds United sold Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2024, and he was an unused substitute against his boyhood club in the 2-1 at Elland Road.

Archie Gray left Leeds United for Spurs, and won the Europa League in his first campaign with the London-based outfit. However, his involvement has not been as regular in 2025/26 as it was in 2024/25.

Tottenham fans wanted Gray to feature against Leeds at Elland Road today, but he was an unused substitute for the full 90 minutes, in spite of his excellent versatility and ability to plug numerous gaps.

For Leeds, Spurs, and England U-21s, Gray has been utilised as a right-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder, and box-to-box midfielder. It will have been disappointing for him on a personal level to not see minutes.

Archie Gray shows appreciation to Leeds United fans

The family name is one of the most famous in British football, and Harry and Archie are the latest to come through the ranks at Elland Road. Unsurprisingly, Gray has praised Leeds for his development during a 10-year association with the club.

That started at the age of eight and ended after that big-money Spurs move from Leeds last summer. However, Gray’s reaction to the Leeds fans was telling on Saturday, even without coming onto the pitch to play.

Daniel Farke wished Gray well ahead of Leeds vs Spurs in this week’s press conference. Similarly, Thomas Frank handed Gray advice ahead of today’s reunion with Leeds for the first time.

Gray opened up on Harry and returning to Leeds. The vast majority of Leeds fans promised Gray a warm welcome at Elland Road following his kind words pre-match.

Per Beren Cross, Gray was spotted partaking in a classy moment post-match. The 19-year-old was seen doing his own personal lap of Elland Road to applaud the home support.

What Leeds fans chanted about Archie Gray that Ben Davies appreciated

Interestingly, Gray didn’t react earlier in the game to some of the chants coming from Leeds fans. Instead, he opted to do his lap of appreciation at full-time.

Alasdair Gold wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “The Leeds fans sing to Archie Gray ‘You’re Leeds and you know you are’. The teenager smiles before jogging off from his warm-up.

“Ben Davies seemed to be suggesting to him he should have acknowledged it.”

He eventually did, which is why the scenes at full-time were so heartwarming, even if they were not the result Leeds fans wanted.
