West Ham manager David Moyes has told The Times that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams was the best player on the pitch as USA kept England at bay to draw 0-0 on Friday night – having watched the game from Florida last week.

Adams, 23, has come in for enormous praise since the start of the World Cup. Given the captain’s armband, he was described as the “heart and soul” of his country’s side. Taylor Twellman says he is USA’s most-important player.

His performances for the US against Wales and England have given Gregg Berhalter’s side a real chance of reaching the last 16. They will find out their fate on Tuesday night. Indeed, they need to beat Iran to qualify for the knockout stages.

Writing in his Times column, West Ham boss Moyes says he was the best player on the park against England. Watching the game in Florida, he says those in and around him believed USA should have won the match. They had the chances.

“I was in Florida when the game was played and saw the American reaction. They felt they were the better team and that Tyler Adams was the best player on the pitch,” Moyes told The Times, when discussing England’s 0-0 draw.

Moyes: Leeds midfielder Adams best player on the pitch against England

As plaudits continue to come in for our summer signing, the worrying niggle in the back of our minds will be – how long can Leeds keep him? Stuart Holden, an ex-USA and Premier League player, suggests he could leave next summer.

Indeed, Holden says that if he continues his form, Champions League clubs will be keen. Today, Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport report that Adams is on the radar of Serie A title challengers Inter Milan ahead of the January window.

Adams has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2027. But it might be that Andrea Radrizzani and the Leeds board need to consider handing Adams a new deal already, in order to deter interest from other clubs in his services.
