Daniel Farke has confirmed talks are underway between Leeds United and Sam Byram over a deal.
Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Cardiff City on Sunday, where he was quizzed on the situation of Byram.
Byram has spent the entirety of pre-season at Leeds, with the initial plan to help him build up his fitness after a nightmare few years of injury problems.
However, Byram has had far more involvement than initially planned, playing in three of Leeds’ four pre-season friendlies, including the majority of the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
The 29-year-old is able to cover on both sides of the defence, but has been played at left-back under Farke with it still a position Leeds are desperately short in.
Farke confirms Leeds are in talks with Byram
The cut-off point to be registered for the weekend has now passed, but Farke confirms talks are ongoing with Byram over a potential move.
He said: “We have had talks. We’ll speak about business when it’s done. We wait. He’s had a good pre-season.”
As per the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier this week, Leeds are in no rush over handing Byram a deal due to the injury problems he has experienced in the last few seasons.
Leeds are still keen for him to continue proving his fitness at Thorp Arch for the remainder of the month and as such, are not prepared to jump into getting him signed up.
If he can prove his fitness, Byram would prove to be a shrewd acquisition on a free due to his versatility and quality.
