Ethan Ampadu says the pressure of playing for Leeds United is something he wants to ‘enjoy and embrace.
Ampadu was speaking in an interview with BBC Sport on the first international break of the season with Wales, where he was questioned on his start to life at Leeds.
The 22-year-old became the first signing of the San Francisco 49ers Enterprises‘ regime as he made the move to Elland Road from Chelsea for £7 million.
Leeds have finally provided Ampadu with a place he can permanently call home having had four loan spells away from Chelsea since joining from Exeter City in 2017.
And that has clearly been reflected in his performances with Ampadu already having proven what a good signing he will be in his first seven appearances in a white shirt.
Ampadu ‘enjoys’ pressure of playing for Leeds
In a press conference on Tuesday, Ampadu was asked whether he understands the pressure of playing for Leeds, to which he claimed it is something he wants to ‘enjoy’.
“We all know the surrounding feelings about what the objectives are for this year but we also know what we have to do as a team week in, week out. There is a lot of pressure to play for a massive club like Leeds, it’s a pressure that we’re all trying to really enjoy and embrace.”
Ampadu has already racked up an abundance of experience in senior despite only being 22 and so the pressure of playing for Leeds is clearly something that does not phase him.
His early matches as a Leeds player look as though he has been playing for the club for many years now, with the Welshman already vital to Daniel Farke’s system.
Some of the 2022 summer signings could not cope with the weight of a white shirt but it’s fair to say Ampadu has handled it far better than most of them have.
