Watford are in talks with Aris Thessaloniki over the signing of Luis Palma, who has also been linked with Leeds United.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who report Watford are keen to sign Palma on an initial loan deal with an option to make it permanent next summer for £4.5 million.

As per Diez in May, Leeds were said to be among a host of clubs including Gent, Anderlecht, Dynamo Kiev, Rangers and Burnley all keen on a potential deal for the 23-year-old.

It doesn’t appear as though Leeds have firmed up that interest, though, with Watford having stolen a march in the race after failed talks with Rangers earlier in the window.

Palma enjoyed a superb season in terms of both goals and assists in Greece last term, netting 13 times and laying on a further eight for his teammates in 46 matches across all competitions.

The six-time capped Honduras international is playing alongside a number of former players from the top two divisions of English football at Aris, with Gervinho, Moses Odubajo, Andre Gray, Aboubakar Kamara and Juan Iturbe all among his teammates.

Watford are now ready to hand him his own opportunity to shine in England as they continue to search for a replacement for Joao Pedro, who joined Brighton in May.

From a Leeds perspective, strengthening their options out wide is probably at the bottom of their priorities this summer.

Leeds currently boast a superb crop of wingers in Willy Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison and Dan James, though it is likely at least two of those depart.

Georginio Rutter is also expected to feature in a wide role this season, which is likely to have cooled their interest in Palma, leaving the door open for Watford.
