Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told The Athletic that he has a lot of respect for Leeds United winger Dan James, after he joined Manchester United and Solskjaer’s side back in July 2019 from Swansea City.
James, 25, started really well at Old Trafford before falling out of the side and struggling to recapture his early form. Two years later, he joined Leeds for £25m – having almost moved to Leeds in January 2019.
The Wales ace has been in and out of the Leeds side since but this season, he is a key player. He might not have started on Sunday at Millwall, but he came on to lay on two assists. He could start tonight.
At his best, James is a player that should be playing for a Premier League team pushing for Europe. But it is a sign of the quality we have out wide at Leeds, that he might be used rotationally. Solskjaer is a fan.
“Wanted Bellingham badly – respect he chose Dortmund. Probably sensible. But it’s why I respect Wan-Bissaka, James and Jadon. Young players prepared to come into a team that wasn’t 100% there.”

James’ form at Manchester United while under Solskjaer was actually rather impressive. Given he only started 55 of 74 Manchester United games – 90 minutes in just 23 matches. Laid on 18 goals, assists.
Very solid, for his first two years in the Premier League and on the European scene. So, James is no doubt, better than Championship football. But he now has the ability to fire us back into the top tier.
