On Tuesday, Daniel Farke needed to turn to his big guns in order to get a win over Plymouth Argyle in The FA Cup. They finally did so, with the help of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.
Summerville, 22, curled home a beautiful goal to put Leeds ahead after extra time – only to then create Georginio Rutter’s effort. Our third. Ilia Gruev’s corner was headed into his own net by Ryan Hardie.
A win that had been expected and duly arrived, even if Farke would have preferred not to use the likes of Summerville and Rutter. But what it did see, was Summerville eclipse 20 goals and assists this season.
Already, he has 13 goals and eight assists. The first Leeds man to have a hand in 20 goals since Patrick Bamford scored 17 and created eight in our first season back in the Premier League, back in 2020-21.
Now, Victor Orta comes in for plenty of criticism and rightly so. He was guilty of some dismal signings, the decision to sack Marcelo Bielsa and appoint Jesse Marsch. Don’t get us started on the loan clauses.

But Orta’s name has been tarnished by that recent work. It must also be remembered that he did some superb business in the transfer market. Some wonderful signings; Raphinha, Illan Meslier, Pascal Struijk.
Raphinha made a huge profit, while Meslier and Struijk are now crucial to Leeds. But of all the signings he made while at Leeds – Summerville is the gem. Still only 22, Summerville was bought for just £1.3m.
Orta signed better players than Summerville – like Raphinha. But in terms of value for money and quality combined, it is difficult to look past Summerville. Judging by his form this term, he is Orta’s best signing.
Maybe, if Summerville continues his incredible form not only this season, but in the Premier League next term, he could be one of the club’s best-ever signings in Leeds United’s history, given, he was a bargain.
