Atalanta and Leicester City have made contact with the representatives of Leeds United target Joel Piroe this week.

That is according to Wales Online, who report the two clubs have both stepped up their interest in the 23-year-old in the last few days.

As per the report, Leeds have not yet ‘come to the table’ amid reports from the Athletic stating the Whites are among the clubs in pursuit of Piroe.

Leeds are set to ramp up their efforts in the transfer market imminently after finally confirming Daniel Farke as their new manager on Tuesday evening.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Farke held a meeting with Leeds’ recruitment staff on Wednesday as they get ready to start strengthening their squad ahead of the opening day of the new season on August 6.

Piroe has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Swansea and is widely expected to depart South Wales after two excellent seasons.

After netting 22 in his debut Championship campaign following his move from PSV, he fired in another 19 last term to establish himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the division.

However, if Leeds are to prise him to Elland Road this summer they will have to act quickly, with Atalanta and Leicester now seemingly leading the race after making contact.

Leicester have already demonstrated their intent in the transfer market this summer with the signings of Harry Winks and Conor Coady, while Atalanta can provide Piroe with Europa League football.

Leeds cannot afford to miss out on too many players of this quality if they want to build a side capable of winning promotion.
