Former Leeds United star Archie Gray’s first full calendar year in senior football has seen him do things some players don’t get to do even once during their careers.
Alongside debuting for England U21s, Gray took part in a failed promotion push at Leeds during the first half of 2024.
Gray was then involved in a topsy turvy transfer saga that saw him initially heading to Brentford before an 11th hour hijack from Tottenham managed to prise him to north London.
Since joining Spurs, Gray has had to be patient. However, he has played 90 minutes in all of their Europa League ties, and is now starting to get a chance in the Premier League.
Gray has done all that while playing in four different positions, with his favoured midfield role having had to take a backseat for both full-back spots, and even most recently central defence.

Gray says his ‘worst’ moment of 2024 was at Leeds
After seeing the reaction on social media from supporters when speculation started to mount over Gray’s exit, Leeds released a huge official statement explaining why it had to be done.
Ultimately, however, the only reason Gray moved on was because of Leeds’ play-off final defeat to Southampton, which officially put an end to their dream of an immediate Premier League return.
Following such impressive seasons in the Championship, it would’ve been brilliant to see the likes of Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter developing in the Premier League at Elland Road.
But that day at Wembley signalled the end of that team and speaking in an interview with Mail+, Gray says it is undoubtedly the ‘worst’ moment of his career so far.
He said: “This year I’ve loads of ups and massive downs, probably the worst in football in losing the play-off final and it’s learning from experiences like that.
“Then signing for Tottenham, learning a bunch, in a different role to what I had at Leeds but it’s learning and adapting to that. It’s about working hard every day to get into the team and I’ll continue to do that. I’m enjoying it.
“It’s been a good year but I’m the type of person who doesn’t really like to get too excited or too low when things get bad. I stay in the middle and that’s the way I’ve always been and was always taught to be. I think that’s really helped me along the way.”

Gray set for Manchester United showdown
Gray’s move to Spurs has certainly provided him with a platform to play in some huge matches, with the latest set to come on Thursday night.
Spurs are going in search of their first trophy since 2008 this season and are set for a Carabao Cup quarter-final with Manchester United on Thursday night.
As a boyhood Leeds fans, the Whites’ rivalry with Man United will give Gray a little added incentive to go and secure the win.
This will be the first time Gray has come up against them in his career, having been an unused sub when Spurs won 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
