Tottenham Hotspur have joined Everton in the race for Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto.
That is according to London World journalist Rahman Osman, who reports Spurs are ‘keeping an eye’ on the situation of Gnonto as they go searching in the market for a frontman with pace and creativity.
As per Osman, Everton remain the front runners in a deal for the Italy international, though it would not be a surprise if interest from Spurs was to turn his head.
Spurs are on the lookout for players who can bolster their front line following the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on Saturday in a deal worth in the region of £100 million.
As such, Spurs will certainly have cash to spend between now and the end of the window, and financially there is no doubt they could blow Everton out of the park.
Spurs monitoring situation of Gnonto at Leeds
Gnonto is determined to leave Leeds in the next couple of weeks and as such, has refused to play in each of the Whites’ last two matches in order to force through a move.
Leeds confirmed in a statement that Gnonto would be the subject of disciplinary action due to his behaviour, while also reaffirming their stance he is not for sale.
However, as per Football Transfers, Leeds are set to ‘renege’ that position, and could be prepared to do a deal for in the region of £25 million.
Gnonto still has four years left to run on his deal at Elland Road, which does not include a relegation release clause, putting Leeds in a decent position.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs following his performances last season, with Gary Neville hailing him as ‘fantastic’ while on Sky Sports commentary duty.
