Leeds United are set to ‘renege’ on their stance that Wilfried Gnonto is not for sale amid strong interest from Everton.
That is according to Football Transfers, who report there is an ‘expectation’ Leeds allow Gnonto to depart before the end of the window as he continues to push for a move to Goodison Park.
As per the report, Leeds have set a valuation of around £25 million to let Gnonto leave and there is a ‘feeling’ that an agreement will be struck between the two clubs.
Gnonto has refused to play in each of Leeds’ last two matches in all competitions, first ruling himself out of the Carabao Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town.
Despite then training well in the two days between games against Shrewsbury and Birmingham City, Gnonto then also made himself unavailable for the trip to the latter.
Leeds now set to ‘renege’ Gnonto not for sale stance
Leeds have made it clear throughout the summer that Gnonto is a player they want to keep and in a statement on Friday, reiterated he is not for sale.
However, due to Gnonto’s public stance of wanting to leave, it is said that Leeds could now reconsider their position and look to agree a deal with Everton.
What’s different for Gnonto in comparison to several other players who have headed for the exit door this summer is that he does not have any sort of release clause.
With four years left on his deal at Elland Road, that puts Leeds in a decent position to secure a fee that reflects his value and can be reinvested.
Based on the fees going round this summer, though, Leeds cannot afford to accept any less than £25 million.
