Tony Dorigo says Leeds player ‘can do some damage’ next season, last played in August

Tony Dorigo claimed during commentary on LUTV during Leeds United’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in Oslo on Wednesday that Dan James can “cause some damage” next season, after returning to the club from a loan spell.

James, 25, joined Leeds in 2021 from Manchester United – and played 40 times for the club, the last of which came in August 2021 – before a loan to Fulham on deadline day. He struggled at Fulham, scoring three goals in 23 games.

Now, he is back at Leeds, where he finds three years left on his Elland Road contract. With Jack Harrison, Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and even Luis Sinisterra – who started on Wednesday – possibly exiting, James is crucial.

He looks set to remain, with Phil Hay reporting that he is likely to stay at Elland Road. He played the second half in a loss to his old side in Norway, and Dorigo said during commentary that he could be a key weapon during 2023-24.

“He could be a very useful addition. A lot of times before, we played him up front which i really don’t think is his position. But I think this season, he can really do some damage and be an important player for us,” Dorigo said.

James is a weapon in the Championship. While he only ever really showed glimpses of quality in the Premier League with Manchester United and Leeds, it was his form at Swansea that threw him onto the radar of the top clubs.

In 33 games for Swansea, he had a hand in 13 goals. Leeds will be hoping that if they do keep hold of him which is now likely, he will be key to our promotion campaign next term. Game time depends on keeping the other wingers.
