Tony Dorigo lauded Georginio Rutter for the pass to Junior Firpo which came in the build-up to Leeds United’s third goal against Birmingham City on Monday.

Leeds got back to winning ways in some style on New Year’s Day. Goals from Patrick Bamford, Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville settled the game at Elland Road and added to Wayne Rooney’s misery.

Leeds were largely in control throughout – though still needing a couple of saves from Kristoffer Klaesson. And the points were made safe during the second-half, with Summerville calmly sliding the ball into the bottom corner.

Georginio Rutter produces another moment of magic in Leeds win

Junior Firpo was a first-half substitute after Sam Byram went off injured. And the former Barcelona man provided two assists, including finding Summerville for the third.

Firpo did well. But the real brilliance for the final goal of the afternoon arguably came from the boots of Georginio Rutter.

Georginio lifted a delicious ball into the path of the left-back. And speaking on LUTV, Tony Dorigo was full of praise for the French forward.

“Fantastic. Absolutely wonderful goal, started initially from Georginio, the ball over the top is just superb,” he said. “A willing runner in Firpo. And when he gets into the box, can you get your head up and find the right pass? The right pass is that man there, Summerville. Because when he gets it, ice runs through his veins, he’s so calm and collected, takes a couple of touches. We’ve seen him before, haven’t we, in this sort of area. Just puts it into that bottom corner. Ruddy absolutely no chance with that one.

“There’s the chip through. It really is very good.”

Another reminder of forward’s stunning potential

Georginio’s sublime pass will not have come as a surprise at all. The 21-year-old has proved that he is capable of ridiculous things.

Georginio probably does need to score more goals. But he has nine assists in the Championship this season. And he obviously played a big role in that final goal on Monday.

Certainly, the Championship looks to be much too easy for him a lot of the time. And we are very lucky to have Georginio in our attack this season.

If he can find a way to be a little more lethal in front of goal, Leeds could have perhaps the best player in the entire division in their ranks.
