‘Ticks that box’: Chris Sutton says decision Leeds made in the summer will get them promoted

Chris Sutton believes Daniel Farke will guide Leeds United to promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Sutton was speaking on BBC 5Live Sport’s Monday Night Club (23 October) where he delivered his verdict on Farke, and Leeds’ promotion chances.

Leeds currently sit third in the Championship with 22 points from their opening 12 matches, with momentum starting to build after three consecutive victories.

The Whites had a slow start to the season after a summer of complete change from top to bottom, which saw San Francisco 49ers Enterprises take over and then appoint Farke as the new manager.

Farke was appointed thanks to his track record in this division, twice guiding Norwich City to the title while playing a brand of football which got supporters on their feet.

Sutton says Leeds will get promoted under Farke

Sutton believes Leeds made the right choice in appointing Farke not only due to his attacking style of play, but also his ‘knowledge of the Championship.’

He said: “In terms of Leeds fans wanting an attacking brand of football, he certainly ticks that box. I think he has had so much to deal with, there has been a big overturn of players, and of course I suppose his biggest issue is that all Leeds fans are wanting to find the next Bielsa.

“But I think he’ll get them up this season, I really do. Just because of his knowledge of the Championship, his nous, his know-how and the way he sets his teams up. So I think Leeds have done well to appoint him.”

Of the managers on Leeds’ final shortlist in the summer there was no one better to come in and galvanise the squad than Farke.

Not only did he navigate his way through a tough transfer window in exemplary fashion, but he has also quickly got his squad to grips with the style of play.

Leeds are only likely to get stronger as the season goes on and so winning three games in a row is a really good sign moving forwards.
