Georginio Rutter made it 15 assists for the season on Tuesday night as he found Dan James on the left before the Leeds United ace scored the only goal of the game – and Aidy White was stunned.

Leeds got back to winning ways but were put under plenty of pressure by a Stoke side that are getting better under new manager Steven Schumacher. Certainly, Stoke were much-improved in the second 45.

But it was Dan James‘ 33rd-minute strike that proved to be the difference at Elland Road. Another clean sheet, and another three points for us, keeping the pressure on Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester.

Before James received the ball out on the left flank, Rutter was working hard midway inside his own half in order to win it. Former Leeds defender White was left dumbfounded, how he managed to wriggle out.

“Dan James doesn’t have many options at all, works himself some space and puts it in the net. But that turn from Georginio Rutter yards from his own box has thrown me in the commentary box,” White said.

“Nobody expected that. If that didn’t come off, we’d all wonder what he’s doing but it does. He’s one of those flair players that’s just got something special,” White said, commentating on BBC Radio Leeds.

It was a quite incredible moment of skill, balance and strength that saw Rutter get Leeds out of a difficult spot before finding James in space on the right. James then kept his cool, getting his shot away on goal.

The Welshman, proving why Daniel Farke decided to bring him back into the side over Willy Gnonto – who did come off the bench for Cree Summerville towards the end of the game. Superb from Rutter.
