‘They want that kind of player’: Fabrizio Romano shares information as Leeds pursue a no.10

Leeds United are assessing the market for a potential new number 10.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who provided the update to Give Me Sport, as the clock ticks towards Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Romano, who broke the story of Leeds’ interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri, reiterated the fact the 26-year-old was a top target for Daniel Farke.

However, as per Phil Hay, Leeds have formally withdrawn their interest in Amiri after he held face-to-face talks with the Whites on Monday after flying in from Germany.

Farke has maintained throughout the summer that some extra creativity is needed in midfield but after their failed pursuit of Amiri, the clock is ticking to get one done.

Romano shares update on Leeds’ no.10 search

Romano says that Leeds are continuing to explore the market for a player of Amiri’s profile, but also hinted there could be a slight chance something could change in the final hours.

He said: “Leeds are exploring the market. They want that kind of player. Let’s see what happens in terms of new options available on the market. But with Amiri, he was a top target. So, let’s see if there is still a chance to make something happen in the final hours. Otherwise, they will move on and go for another player in that position.”

Midfield is the priority area Leeds are looking to strengthen before Friday’s 11pm deadline but links to a new no.10 have been sparse since the failed pursuit of Amiri.

Leeds appear to be currently focusing on player in that slightly deeper midfield role, with Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara continuing to be heavily linked.

Given how keen Farke was to sign Amiri, though, it would be a real disappointment if a new number 10 does not arrive.
