Daniel Farke has guided Leeds United to first place in the Championship with just three defeats from 35 Championship games, but he hasn’t matched something Don Revie did back in 1968-69.
Saturday saw Leeds stretch their unbeaten run to a whopping 17 games, even if they failed to beat West Brom at Elland Road. Junior Firpo’s early header was cancelled out by Darnell Furlong prior to half-time.
Mateo Joseph hit the bar and Leeds had other half-chances without scoring a winner. It leaves Leeds in first place and three points clear of Sheffield United, 11 points better off than promotion back in 2019-20.
But back in 1987, Leeds legend Don Revie – the man to deliver two of Leeds’ three First Division titles – made a prediction that has come true even to this day when discussing Leeds’ first-ever league triumph.

Don Revie prediction alive and beating, after more than 50 years
Leeds won the First Division in 1968-69, 1973-74 and then the season before the Premier League began in 1991-92. During Leeds’ first title win, which established Revie’s legendary status, Leeds lost two games.
Just two of 42 league games, in which The Whites won 27 times and kept a huge 24 clean sheets. Indeed, The Whites – a side consisting of Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer and other legends – only conceded 26.
Speaking to Jon Motson almost 20 years later in 1987, Revie said that a Leeds side would struggle to do what his side did that season in losing only two games. His prediction has come true even this season.
Asked about 1968-69, Revie said: “Well that was the season we only lost two matches out of 42. I think that record will stand for a long, long time yet. We lost twice in a week, 3-1 at Man City, 5-1 at Burnley.
“It really was some record. We got 67 or 68 points [two points for a win], but only losing two games in a season in the First Division when there were a lot of good teams about at that time, was really special.”
How close have Leeds come to match Don Revie’s record?
Leeds have been unable to match Revie’s record since the 1968-69 season in only losing two league games all season, though Farke’s Leeds could go close this term – having only lost three times after 35.
Seasons since 1968-69 where Leeds have lost less five or less:
| Season | League | Position | Wins | Draws | Losses | Manager |
| 1968-69 | First Division | Champions | 27 | 13 | 2 | Don Revie |
| 1970-71 | First Division | Second | 27 | 10 | 5 | Don Revie |
| 1973-74 | First Division | Champions | 24 | 14 | 4 | Don Revie |
| 1991-92 | First Division | Champions | 22 | 16 | 4 | Harold Wilkinson |
| 2024-25 (so far) | Championship | First (currently) | 22 | 10 | 3 | Daniel Farke |
Only once before Revie’s Leeds won the 1968-69 title had Leeds lost less than five games in one season – when The Whites were promoted to the top tier under Albert Johanesson and Ian Lawson back in 63-64.
Just three defeats that campaign. So, Farke is on course not to match Revie’s record season of 1968-69 but could come very close if the Yorkshire outfit can remain without defeat in the final 11 outings.
