Brenden Aaronson says this season has been the best year of his career and has paid tribute to Daniel Farke for the impact the Leeds United manager has had in saving his Elland Road spell.
After looking finished at Leeds United following relegation, Aaronson has become one of Farke’s most trusted players through relentless work-rate, tactical discipline and consistency.
Aaronson arrived at Leeds in a £25m move from Salzburg as one of Jesse Marsch’s first signings, but his first season in England was difficult from the beginning. Just one goal in 40 appearances followed.
Leeds supporters heavily criticised several players after relegation, especially those who activated loan clauses inserted by Victor Orta, and Aaronson spent the following season with Union Berlin.
Leeds United fans told they’re being unfair on Brenden Aaronson 🗣️
Farke made the surprise decision to reintegrate him during the summer of 2024, and now, that decision now looks fully justified after Aaronson publicly praised Farke for saving his career at Elland Road.
“I would say, because of the league and Leeds as a club, and everything I have been through, it has been the best year of my career. It is credit to the coaching staff, the coach knew what I had been through.
“He’s done an amazing job helping me ever since I got back. He knows how big a club it is, and knows you can go through a tough time. He’s had my back ever since I’ve been back here.
“He’s given me so much confidence and I’m really lucky to work under him, he’s taught me so much. I want to play here for as long as I can,” Aaronson told Sky Sports’ Beyond The Game podcast.
Aaronson has become one of Leeds’ most trusted players
Farke has not kept selecting Aaronson because of reputation or transfer fee. He has continued picking him because the American has become one of the most dependable players in the squad.
Aaronson has made 34 Premier League appearances this season, including 27 starts and more than 2,200 league minutes. He has also contributed four goals and five assists.

The USA international has been operating across attacking midfield, wide positions and even as a second striker when required. That versatility has become one of the main reasons Farke values him so highly.
Aaronson may not always dominate headlines, but managers consistently trust players who can solve tactical problems without disrupting the structure of the team. Aaronson’s attitude is top tier, too.
The numbers show why Farke values Aaronson so highly
Aaronson’s biggest contribution often comes without the ball, which is why his underlying numbers matter so much when judging his importance to Leeds.
He has produced 209 defensive contributions, 124 recoveries and 50 tackles in league action this season, while also winning possession 14 times in the final third.
Those figures help explain why Farke keeps trusting him even when supporters debate his final product. Aaronson gives Leeds energy, pressing intensity and constant movement across multiple positions.
Even Larry Nance Jr admitted Leeds would struggle without Aaronson’s work-rate, highlighting the value of his running and tactical discipline.

Aaronson now sounds fully committed to Leeds again
What makes Aaronson’s comments particularly significant is how different the mood around him looked just over a year ago. There was genuine uncertainty over whether he still had a future at Leeds.
Now, Aaronson is openly discussing a long-term future at Elland Road while still being under contract until 2027. That turnaround reflects well on the player, but it also says plenty about Farke’s management.
Rebuilding confidence in players who looked damaged after relegation has been one of the most important parts of Leeds’ progress under the German coach. Aaronson won’t silence every critic at Leeds.
But Farke clearly values qualities that are not always obvious from goals and assists alone. The manager rebuilt the player’s confidence, trusted him when others doubted him, and now has one of the hardest-working players in the squad fully committed to the club again.
