Georginio Rutter says Daniel Farke has been huge to his turnaround in form at Leeds United.

Rutter was speaking in an interview with Sky Sports ahead of Leeds’ trip to Southampton on Saturday, where he was asked about his excellent start to the season.

The 21-year-old made the move to Elland Road in January earlier this year for what could potentially be a club record fee, with Jesse Marsch having been the man to green light his signing.

Marsch was sacked not long after arrival and was replaced by Javi Gracia, who also did not last long before being relieved of his duties to allow Sam Allardyce to come in.

That uncertainty, coupled with his sporadic game time meant when he was unable to show his best form, which posed question marks as to why he was brought to Leeds.

However, under Daniel Farke, who has shown full belief in him – all be it in a lower division – Rutter has been excellent and is quickly beginning to establish himself as a fan favourite.

Rutter shares how Farke has been key to his Leeds form

Rutter admits he had a hard time at Leeds in the first few months after his arrival but thinks Farke has given him a ‘lot of confidence’ to go and play his natural game.

He said: “It was difficult when I arrived last season, and the boss knew it was tough for me. He knew me from Germany and he’s given me a lot of confidence. We speak a lot about our plans and structure. He’s a very good coach.

“It’s tricky when you come for a certain coach, and then he leaves and it changes again. The adaptation was difficult and I didn’t play a lot. When I was in Germany the pressure was not like this. I don’t think I showed the best of myself last year. Everyone spoke about the price tag and that added pressure.

“I’m the same guy with the same mentality, but it’s a different team now. Now if I miss a chance he tells me it’s okay. I’m playing more minutes and more games, and I’m happy to be working hard and to be involved with goals and assists.”

Rutter enjoying himself

It is clear to see the weight of expectations has been lifted off his shoulders by Farke and he now really looks as though he is thriving at Elland Road.

Once he becomes a bit more clinical in front of goal he will be some player and hopefully he can continue playing the way he has been recently.
