While Daniel Farke and his Leeds United squad have their sights firmly set on achieving promotion back to the Premier League this season, it’s fair to say the club’s fans have been reveling in one of their most bitter rivals continued struggles.
Manchester United are currently enduring a dismal start to the new season and on Monday lunchtime the club decided to swing the axe on manager Erik ten Hag and ending months of speculation over the Dutchman’s future in the job.
The Red Devils sit 14th in the Premier League after suffering their fourth defeat in nine league games on Sunday afternoon, when former Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville netted the opener in West Ham’s 2-1 win.
The club confirmed the news of Ten Hag’s departure in a statement on their website, confirming that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as interim head coach while Ten Hag’s successor is recruited.

Leeds United fans enjoying Man United chaos
There is no love lost between Leeds and Manchester United, so it is little surprise that Whites fans were quick to take to social media to have their say on their rivals’ misfortune.
One fan said he was ‘looking to the next misstep’ on X, while Summerville’s role in Ten Hag’s demise was also celebrated.
“Summerville got Ten Hag sacked,” posted another fan, while there was also plenty of sarcasm on display as one posted: “I thought he was doing a great job,” and another said it was “a shocking decision……… for all us that hate them’.
Leeds will the opportunity to upset another Manchester United favourite at the weekend, as the club welcome Wayne Rooney and Plymouth Argyle to Elland Road, with the Pilgrims sitting just one place above the relegation zone, something that Leeds fans also tied into their Ten Hag reaction.
“Let’s hope they give the job to Rooney. Not before Saturday, though, obviously,” posted a fan. Rooney was sacked as Birmingham City manager following a 3-0 defeat to Leeds at the start of this year.
Manchester United are next in action on Wednesday when they face Leicester City in the League Cup.
