Stuart Dallas shares what Daniel James has been doing behind the scenes at Leeds United after scoring vs Norwich

Leeds United are back on top of the Championship table once again after a 17th league win of the season against Norwich City on Wednesday night, with Dan James among the goals again.

Dan James took his tally to 11 goals and assists for the season despite facing a few games sidelined through injuries. A seventh goal of the season came after he laid on his fourth assist for Manor Solomon.

The Welshman’s assist came after just 31 seconds, a low cross for Solomon to score early on. Then, the pocket-sized winger was there to volley in from close range, getting on the end of a Solomon cross.

That is now 11 games unbeaten for Leeds ahead of a massive promotion clash against Burnley next Monday. Speaking after the game, Leeds icon Stuart Dallas gave his verdict on James’ time at Leeds.

Stuart Dallas heaps praise on Dan James after slow Leeds start

Back in the summer of 2021, James arrived at Leeds for a fee of £25m and was used out of position as a striker under Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League due to injuries – and then, he was loaned to Fulham.

But relegation to the Championship and working under Daniel Farke has helped get the best out of the speed machine. He has 32 goals and assists in 69 games, scoring 20 goals and laying on eight assists.

Dallas told Matchday Live that it took time, but we are now seeing the best of James: “DJ is producing numbers. It has taken him a wee while to get to this point, he’s worked really hard on his end product.

“He’s come to the club with a big price tag which is a huge pressure, but he’s really enjoying it. I know outside of football he’s really settled with his family, it’s fantastic to see he’s producing these numbers.”

Leeds have to take action and get Dan James’ future sorted

Like Dallas says, Farke said in the past few days that James has been judged harshly against his £25m price tag. It did take the former Swansea man a couple of seasons but now, he is finally shining for Leeds.

So much so, that clubs will be keeping an eye on James and his contract situation. The winger has now entered the final 18 months of his deal and Leeds have got to meet at the negotiating table for James.

If Leeds have any sense, if The 49ers have an ambition, then they have to meet James’ demands and go and thrash out a new deal. The chances are, that nothing happens until the summer but it is a priority.
