‘Sorry’: 32-year-old becomes second Leeds player to break silence after relegation

Rodrigo Moreno has become the second player to break his silence after Leeds United’s relegation to the Championship on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was writing on his official Instagram, where he explained how ‘sorry’ he was for how the season has unfolded.

Leeds‘ fate was officially sealed at the weekend thanks to a horrific 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road.

Sam Allardyce opted to name six defenders in his line-up but somehow, it was still pulled apart after just two minutes which gave Leeds a mountain to climb.

That said, both Everton and Leicester City picked up three points in their respective matches anyway, factoring Leeds’ result as irrelevant regardless of the scoreline.

Rodrigo apologises

It is of little surprise that Rodrigo is one of the first to come out and apologise to supporters, with Joel Robles the first 24 hours earlier.

He said: “I can’t find the words to describe yesterday’s feeling. I just can say SORRY to all Leeds fans.

“For sure you deserve much better from us.”

Rodrigo is one of the only members of the squad who can look back at the season with his head held high having netted 13 Premier League goals in 31 matches.

The Spaniard had found it difficult in his first two years at Leeds but really stepped up in front of goal with no one else in the squad anywhere close to reaching double figures.

Under Jesse Marsch, Rodrigo was established as one of the leaders of the squad but he looks set to be one of several players who depart this summer.

Leeds are preparing for a huge overhaul that could see departures go well into double figures, in what will be a chaotic transfer window for the club.

Rodrigo is arguably one of a handful who deserves a move back to the top-flight of a European league, with interest no doubt set to arrive from his homeland of Spain.
