Ethan Ampadu completed a move to Leeds United on Tuesday and he spoke of the year he spent with Tyler Adams at RB Leipzig while on loan in Germany – and some Leeds fans think his comments are a hint that Adams is staying.
Ampadu, 22, finally exits Chelsea after four successive season-long loans away from Stamford Bridge. The 43-time Wales man has been with Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia. Now, he joins Leeds permanently for £7m.
There are add-ons which could take a deal to £10m. He has penned a four-year deal at Elland Road, with the option of a further year – potentially taking him to 2028 at Elland Road. He could actually partner Adams in central midfield.
Speaking about Adams, Ampadu said he contacted the USA skipper when interest from Leeds first emerged. The versatile star shares how Adams spoke highly of the club – despite relegation, and being linked with a £25m exit.
“Tyler and I got on well [at RB Leipzig]. When the interest was there, I gave him a message and we spoke a little bit. He couldn’t speak highly enough about Leeds. A good friend. We have always stayed in touch,” Ampadu told LUTV.
Some Leeds fans think Ampadu comments hint that Adams is staying put
Having Adams in the Championship would be wonderful and it has led to fans pleading with the midfielder on social media to stay. He is recovering from a hamstring injury – and is seen sharing a joke with our new signing on LUTV.
While Ampadu’s comments do not literally suggest Adams is staying, it shows Adams holds Leeds in high regard. A number of Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Ampadu’s comments – they reckon they’re a hint Adams is staying.
