Ethan Ampadu has revealed he spoke to Tyler Adams ahead of completing his move to Leeds United.
Ampadu was speaking in an interview with LUTV after his transfer from Chelsea was confirmed earlier today, for a fee in the region of £7 million.
The 22-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the option of a fifth at Elland Road and becomes Leeds’ first signing of the summer.
Ampadu played alongside Adams during the midfield duo’s time together at Red Bull Leipzig back in the 2019/20 season, with the two having kept in contact since.
Providing Adams stays at Leeds this summer, the two could be lining up alongside one another, which could be a formidable midfield partnership in this division.
Ampadu reveals what Adams told him on Leeds move
Speaking after his move was sealed, Ampadu explained how Adams encouraged him to make the move to Leeds due to how highly he spoke of the club.
He said: “Tyler and I got on well [at RB Leipzig].When the interest was there, I gave him a message and we spoke a little bit. He couldn’t speak highly enough about the club. He’s a good friend and we have always stayed in touch.
“I have also seen a lot of the positive messages that I have received, so thank you to everyone. I am very excited this has happened and for the project ahead.”
Ampadu is an excellent first foray into the market from Leeds, but it is also great to hear how involved Adams was with getting him to come to the club.
Based on what Ampadu has said Adams told him, hopefully it is a promising sign that the USMNT captain will be sticking around to aid Leeds’ promotion push.
