Everton are set to end their pursuit of Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto after seeing ‘multiple’ offers turned down.
That is according to Sky Sports, who report it will take a ‘dramatic change in attitude’ from Leeds to come to some sort of agreement with Everton for Gnonto, though a deal is not completely out of the question.
Everton are now set to move onto other targets and could make an approach for Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who looks destined to depart St. Mary’s this summer.
Sulemana actually turned down a move to Everton in favour of Southampton back in January but has remained on Sean Dyche’s radar ever since, but will face competition from Nice and Lille.
Former Leicester City winger Tete is another potential alternative for Everton with the Brazilian winger now a free agent after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.
Everton now ready to end pursuit of Leeds’ Gnonto
Right from the beginning of the summer, Gnonto has been earmarked as a player Leeds are desperate to keep this season and build a promotion push around.
There has been constant noise from Italy about the 19-year-old being desperate to leave and also on the verge of joining Everton, but at this stage, that is not the case.
Gnonto has four years left to run on his deal at Leeds and no relegation release clause in his contract, putting the Whites in a strong negotiating position.
San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have clearly used that to their advantage, with Sky Sports stating multiple approaches have been rejected.
From a Leeds perspective, it is promising to hear one of the most talented players at the club could be staying, but equally they aren’t being bullied by other clubs in negotiations.
