Clinton Morrison has predicted whether Daniel Farke’s Leeds United will win automatic promotion to the Premier League amid competition from Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton.
Leeds United are among the clubs who are aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Daniel Farke’s side are third in the Championship table now with 73 points from 35 games.
The Whites are two points behind Ipswich Town in second. Leicester City are at the top of the table with 78 points from 35 games. Southampton in fourth have picked up 70 points from 35 matches.
Clinton Morrison makes Leeds United prediction
Former Sheffield Wednesday striker and Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has backed Leicester to win the Championship and Leeds to finish second.
Morrison said on Sky Sports News (1:13 pm, March 2, 2024): “We have (a title race), but I still think Leicester will win the title. I know that they have had a few bad results, but I still think they are good enough. There was that gap. You always get a team in the Championship, they have that sticky spell, and that’s what Leicester have had recently. I think they will kick on now.
“I think they will win it, and I think Leeds will finish second. I think they will be those (two). Ipswich, McKenna, has done a fantastic job. All they can do is keep on winning, but if you are look at the Leeds squad, the likes of Summerville, Gnonto, Piroe, Rutter, and even Bamford starting today and Piroe on the bench, and then they can bring them on, Archie Gray, they have got a fantastic squad, so I think Leeds will just do it.
“If you had asked me a month ago, I would have said Southampton, but, as I said, this is what the Championship is like. It is really tight.”
My View: Leeds United cannot become complacent
In my opinion, Leeds United cannot become complacent. I think that Daniel Farke and his players have to stay focused and humble. They failed to win against Huddersfield Town in the Championship on Saturday.
Leicester City have lost their last three Championship games, but I believe that they have got the best squad in the division.
The likes of Conor Coady, Harry Winks, Kelechi Iheanacho, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy are far too good for the Championship.
I am sure that the Foxes will recover from their current bad spell, so Leeds have to focus on getting the second and final automatic promotion spot.
Southampton have been inconsistent lately. The Saints have won two and lost three of their last of their last five Premier League games.
Ipswich Town are not going away. The Tractors have bounced back from their tough spell and have won their last five Championship games.
