Stuttgart are now in the driving seat to beat Leeds United to the signing of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.
That is according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports a secret meeting took place between Nubel and the hierarchy of Stuttgart, who now have a ‘very good’ chance of winning the race.
Plettenberg also added that Leeds remain keen on the 26-year-old but are yet to submit an official offer, and while Bayern are keen on selling him permanently, Stuttgart feel like they can secure a loan with an option-to-buy.
Leeds’ interest in Nubel first became apparent last night with Bild reporting a decision would be made imminently on his future.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are ready to offer £6.8 million in order to win the race but yesterday’s meeting appears to have tipped the balance in favour of Stuttgart.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has backed up claims from Germany of Leeds’ interest in Nubel, though also added Nick Hammond remains very keen on Karl Darlow.
Leeds are said to be battling with Bournemouth for the signature of the Newcastle United shot-stopper, who could command a fee of £5 million.
Daniel Farke is keen to add to his goalkeeping options this summer with Illan Meslier widely expected to depart, despite Leeds having yet to receive an offer.
If Leeds are able to somehow win the race for Nubel, it would represent a significant coup particularly in the with the former AS Monaco loanee racking up over 150 appearances in some of Europe’s top leagues and competitions.
Whatever happens, it looks like this saga will be wrapped up soon one way or another.
