Isaac Schmidt has endured a torrid time at Leeds United since his move from Swiss side St. Gallen and on Wednesday night, the full-back was not even included in the squad.
Illness prevented Schmidt from featuring in the Leeds United squad that got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Millwall at Elland Road. The summer signing has had his injury problems during 2024-25.
Costing a princely £4.6m to sign Schmidt from St. Gallen, he has gone on to play just nine times for The Whites this season. Daniel Farke has explained that Schmidt is training well, but is simply third-choice.
Indeed, his two sole starts have come in The FA Cup against Harrogate Town and Millwall, with Schmidt the stand-out performer during the 2-0 defeat to the London side at Elland Road back in January.

Despite his lack of game time at Leeds and not even starting a single game for The Whites in the Championship, Swiss outlet Blick report that Schmidt is set to be called-up by Switzerland this month.
Brenden Aaronson has been left out of USA’s squad by Mauricio Pochettino and now a second surprise in terms of call-ups – with Schmidt uncapped. He remains well-regarded in Switzerland after starring there.
Switzerland boss Murat Yakin wants to experiment over the next fortnight. Alongside Schmidt, the Swiss boss could also call up Leeds transfer target Alvyn Sanches after a wonderful season at Lausanne.
Leeds United’s list of international players ahead of March break
The best place to start is Wales with Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon and Dan James called-up. Junior Firpo will travel a long distance to represent the Dominican Republic once again, while Ao Tanaka is with Japan.
Ilia Gruev will be able to represent Bulgaria for the first time since September after his four-month injury lay-off prevented October and November call-ups, but Aaronson won’t be involved in USA’s fixtures.
Manor Solomon is expected to get called-up by Israel while Mateo Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto are set to be with Spain and Italy’s U21 sides again. Plenty on their travels then, but also plenty staying at home.
