Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic that League One side Fleetwood Town are trying to sign Leeds United gem Darko Gyabi on loan for the 23-24 season – after rejecting a £4m bid from Valenciennes.

Gyabi, 19, was expected to make a breakthrough this season after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League. But, he has been overtaken by Archie Gray. Leeds have signed two more midfielders.

Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara have pushed the England U20 midfielder further down the pecking order. While he played against Shrewsbury in the Cup, he was left on the bench in the defeat to Salford City.

Graham Smyth claims Leeds have turned down a £4m bid from French second-tier side Valenciennes. The club are keen to keep Gyabi, but are willing to do a loan – and Scott Brown wants him at Fleetwood.

Phil Hay: Fleetwood trying to sign Leeds gem Darko Gyabi on loan

A good move for Gyabi. It will see him instantly go into a side where he will start every week – and not only that, he will be playing in a team that is coached by one of Scotland’s best-ever midfield players.

He will learn an abundance of knowledge under the guidance of Celtic legend Brown, should he join Fleetwood. With Hay reporting it, a move looks pretty likely to go through before the end of the day.

It is the right move from Leeds too. There is huge potential in Gyabi, so binning him off after a year at Leeds would be a mistake. Let him get game time and enxt season, he could really shine for the club.
