Sam Byram has said to LUTV that Daniel Farke told the Leeds United players to keep their heads, but pass quicker in the final third – after going in at the break two goals down to Cardiff in the first game of the season, ending 2-2.
Goals from Josh Bowler and Ike Ugbo gave Cardiff a 2-0 lead against the run of play going into the break. But Liam Cooper lead by example, halving the deficit with a superb header – his 11th goal in what was his 266th Leeds game.
Eventually, Leeds hauled themselves level – Luis Sinisterra’s gorgeous turn and shot saw the ball fall kindly to winger Crysencio Summerville, who finished with aplomb from 16 yards. Byram came on at half-time, after rejoining Leeds.
The full-back signed a one-year deal on Friday and was included in the side against Cardiff – replacing Leo Hjelde at half-time. He impressed as Leeds came won a point, and speaking to LUTV, he shared what Farke said at half time.
“He said, we had possession, but sloppy. Mistakes cost us – that’s the Championship. He said to keep cool heads, keep moving it. We were slow in the first half. He said chances will come – they did. We could’ve gone on to win.”

It was a frustrating one for Leeds and Farke. As fans, Cardiff – who finished 21st last season, and a side that Leeds smashed 5-2 in the FA Cup at Elland Road in January – was seen as a comfortable start to the Championship term.
However, Cardiff brought Leeds back down to reality, and a reminder that if we are going to gain promotion this season – then we must put the graft in, as well as boasting the attacking talent. But a good sign, and plenty of fight.
