Robert Snodgrass delivers four-word verdict on the latest news coming out of Leeds United

Leeds United are working incredibly hard in the transfer window at the moment as they move a number of players out the door, and on Monday they even welcomed a new signing.

This summer has seen The 49ers admit that sales will be required. Archie Gray has moved to Premier League side Tottenham, in a deal that allowed Leeds to then spend £10m on Joe Rodon after his loan.

Following Gray out of the door permanently include Marc Roca, Kristoffer Klaesson and defender Charlie Cresswell, who moved to Toulouse on Monday. Diego Llorente is expected to be the next on that list.

Sonny Perkins, Jack Harrison and Sam Greenwood have gone on loan. Liam Cooper, Ian Poveda and Cody Drameh are free agents, while Jamie Shackleton has left on a free transfer to join Sheffield United.

Snodgrass and Ross McCormack react as Leeds make signing

Plenty of focus is being placed on bringing cash in at Elland Road but Leeds have not forgotten about new signings. On Monday, they moved quickly to bring in a replacement for Klaesson, in Alex Cairns.

The 31-year-old joins Leeds for a small fee from Salford City, returning to the club nine years after his exit to Chesterfield. He has since starred at Fleetwood and played 240 games, before joining Salford in 2023.

Leeds confirmed the news on Instagram with a picture of Cairns putting pen to paper and plenty of his old Leeds teammates responded. Among them were Alex Mowatt, Ross McCormack and Snodgrass.

Which other positions do Leeds need to strengthen?

The sale of Gray means Leeds are lacking at right-back. Shackleton’s exit, and Connor Roberts going back to Burnley means Leeds are light on the right. A new right-sided defender will be a priority right now.

Cover at centre-back too, to allow Ethan Ampadu back into midfield and given that Cooper has left the club albeit without confirmation. Junior Firpo is ‘expected’ to go so perhaps, another left-back is needed.

Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto could leave, with Jaidon Anthony and Poveda gone. So two or possibly even three new wingers may be targeted as Leeds prepare for the opener against Portsmouth.
