Leeds United have been ‘sounding out’ the agents of players expected to leave the club this summer.
That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report that although the ownership situation will need clarifying first, preparations have been put in place on some ‘potential goodbyes’.
It has been reported Leeds’ number of departures could head well into double figures once the transfer window opens following the club’s relegation.
Leeds have inserted 50% wage cuts into the contracts of all players with many also including release clauses in order to facilitate their departures.
Rodrigo, Illan Meslier, Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch, Marc Roca and Jack Harrison are six of many of last season’s regulars who could leave, while fringe players Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton and Ian Poveda could all go too.
Leeds preparing for mass exodus
Like with many other things that need sorting this summer – including the appointments of a manager and sporting director – a squad overhaul can only happen once clarity arrives on the ownership situations.
Thankfully, various reports are indicating that could arrive as early as the beginning of next week, which would be the first of the summer dominos to fall.
It is good to hear Leeds are putting at least some early plans in place, though, as the quicker players who don’t want to be at the club start to leave, the quicker they can be replaced.
The agents who have been informed of potential goodbyes will no doubt have already been on the phone touting their clients availability to other clubs in the hope of securing a quick move.
Of those set to move on, Germany has been mentioned as a potential destination for Aaronson, while both Rodrigo and Roca could return to their native Spain.
