Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web report that Tottenham and RB Leipzig are also in the mix to sign Leeds United star Robin Koch this summer – with the Germany defender in the final 18 months of his deal, and his future up in the air.

Koch, 26, is enjoying his best season since joining Leeds from Freiburg in the summer of 2020. Injuries limited the German defender in his first two seasons. But he finished 2021-22 well under Jesse Marsch, and is now impressing.

This season, Koch has started 25 of our 26 Premier League games. Last week, German outlet Sport1 said Koch is a target for Newcastle as well as other Premier League clubs and Bundesliga sides. Koch then spoke to German site Spox.

Asked about his future, he said his agent and the club have opened preliminary talks. But, Koch is waiting until the end of the season to sign a new deal – presumably because the club could go down. Now, TMW say Tottenham are keen.

They also state that Leipzig – knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City on Tuesday night – are also looking at Koch. The Sun said in 2020 that Tottenham wanted Koch – as well as Newcastle, Leipzig and Lazio in Italy.

From a Leeds point of view, Leeds need to tie Koch down to a new deal. But, from Koch’s point of view, why would he sign a new contract right now? Leeds sit in 19th place and Javi Gracia’s side need to pick up some wins to keep us up.

But if Leeds go down and Koch has signed a new deal, then he is going to be playing Championship football next term. Something he will not want to do. So, it is right talks are underway – but Koch is right to delay it. It will see interest rise.
