Leeds United are reportedly keen on striker Djordje Jovanovic from Robbie Keane’s new side Maccabi Tel Aviv, after the Serbian ace scored 22 goals last season – and TV Sports Arena say Tel Aviv have told Leeds he will cost £3.5m.

Three-time Serbia ace Jovanovic was superb for Tel Aviv last season, and such form has attracted interest from us. A report from Sports Walla says that Leeds want to sign the striker, with Keane’s side willing to cash in on Jovanovic.

Indeed, the report claims they are keen to cash in on him, while they have Eren Zahavi banging in the goals – even at the age of 35, scoring 26 last term. Now, TV Sports Arena – a Serbian outlet – share how much Leeds must pay.

They say Maccabi have informed Leeds that they will have to part with a fee of £3.5m to land Jovanovic in the next few weeks in order to tempt him with a move to Elland Road. If Leeds actually need a striker is another question.

Leeds have plenty up top. Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter, Sonny Perkins, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt, who has returned from a loan at Sunderland. So, why are Leeds supposedly looking at signing a striker.

Rodrigo is likely to go. Bamford may stay, but his injury record means he cannot be relied upon. Rutter looks set to remain at Elland Road, and he may prove key this season. Perkins, Joseph and Gelhardt are all unproven so far.

Gelhardt managed just three goals during half a season at Sunderland. So, Leeds may need a striker – especially if one or two depart. That could be where Jovanovic comes in. Cheap, young, knows where the net is. Makes sense.
