Report: Obstacles still to overcome in exit for Leeds man, deal had been described as imminent

Real Betis still have ‘obstacles’ to overcome in their quest to agree a deal with Leeds United to sign Marc Roca.

That is according to Marca, who report Roca’s wages, competition from elsewhere and a gap in valuation for an option-to-buy mean the deal is still yet to be agreed.

Roca has emerged as a primary target for Betis following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship as they look to strengthen their squad after qualifying for the Europa League.

The 26-year-old is a player Betis have been keen to sign for a long time now, with Leeds actually beating them to his signature from Bayern Munich last summer.

However, it now appears as though they could get their man this time around, with Roca expected to be one of the first of many to depart now the window is open.

Betis still have to work to do on Roca deal

Reports from Spain had described a deal as imminent earlier this week, though it appears that was premature with work still to do to complete the agreement.

Sevilla – who could be set to appoint the man that brought Roca to Leeds last summer Victor Orta as their new sporting director – have been credited with an interest, while Girona are also keen.

The latter are said to have a better financial capability thanks to investment from the City Group but it is Betis who remain the side determined to sign him.

Even though a permanent move would be better for Leeds, it is a loan deal feels almost certain at this stage based on the noises coming out from Spain.

As such, Leeds must ensure they include an option-to-buy that sees them earn a fee as close to the £12 million they paid Bayern 12 months ago.
