USMNT have made contact with former Leeds United target Patrick Vieira over becoming their new manager.

That is according to ESPN, who report Vieira is indeed keen on the role after USA informed him of their interest, though a deal has not progressed after initial talks.

Former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch had looked all but set to take over the role following Gregg Berhalter’s departure, with Men In Red 97 indicating it was ‘practically done’.

Marsch is still in the hunt for his first job since being sacked by Leeds in February, though the reasons as to why he has not signed on the dotted line for the USA job remain unclear.

One plausible explanation could be down to the amount of club positions he has been linked to in recent weeks, with AS Monaco, Celtic, Leicester City and Southampton all having been mentioned as potential destinations.

That said, it is only Monaco who remain interested at this point with the other three all having turned their attentions elsewhere.

Incidentally, Vieira was linked with the Leeds job after Marsch’s exit earlier this year and was also reportedly keen on the role even while still at Crystal Palace.

After a long winless run, Vieira was then sacked by Palace the following month, though according to TalkSPORT, he remained of interest to Leeds.

Leeds’ interest in Vieira was likely to have been spearheaded by Victor Orta, but with him no longer at the club, there have been no links to the Frenchman in their hunt for a new manager.

The 46-year-old is said to have had three offers from Premier League sides since his Palace exit, but it is USA who appear most interested in his services at this point.

Only his former club Palace are still yet to clarify their plans for a manager ahead of next season, and following his spell at NY Red Bulls earlier in his career, the USA job appears a distinct possibility.
