Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have decided to sack manager Philippe Clement over the weekend, just a few months after the Belgian rejected Leeds United in February to replace Jesse Marsch – and Marsch could now replace Clement.
Defeat to Toulouse on Saturday saw Monaco’s chances of European qualification come to an end, finishing in a poor sixth place in the Ligue 1 table. Five defeats in their last seven games saw Monaco slip out of the top five places.
Clement has spent 18 months at Monaco, ending with stats of 38 wins in 73. But it has not finished well and he now finds himself without a club. He has also managed Belgian giants Club Brugge and Genk, and has 38 Belgium caps.
De Telegraaf – as per GIFN – reported in February that Clement had rejected our advances to replace Marsch a few months ago. Now, we may return and consider a move for Clement with the Belgian now out of work after his exit.

In what is a strange world where things often align, football may throw another curve ball – with Marsch potentially replacing Clement. CBS Sports report that Marsch is the man Monaco are targeting to replace Clement this summer.
Is Clement the man for Leeds? Well, his Monaco side certainly played attractive football. They scored an impressive 70 goals in his side’s 38 League games this season – but the back door was open, conceding 58 times in 2022-23.
Would Clement, 49, move to Leeds? Unlikely, given he still got Monaco in the top six. European outfit. He will fancy himself above a Championship side in Leeds. But, if he struggles to find a home before the season, who knows.
