Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is being considered as a potential candidate at AS Monaco if current manager Philippe Clement leaves as expected.
That is according to CBS Sports, who report Marsch has emerged as a possibility for the Ligue 1 side despite remaining the front runner for the vacant USMNT job.
Clement is touted as likely to leave Monaco at the end of the season after a run of four defeats in six matches, which has left them without European football in their hands going into the final day.
Monaco currently sit sixth in the table behind Rennes on goal difference, but could still qualify for either the Europa League or Conference League if they beat Toulouse and results elsewhere go their way.
Earlier this month, Marsch’s arrival as USA’s new manager had looked all but done but CBS claim a decision is not expected soon, which could leave the door open for Monaco to make their move.
Marsch eyeing first job since Leeds exit
Marsch has been out of work since his dismissal at Leeds back in February, though he has not been short of offers in the proceeding months.
Both Southampton and Leicester City – who were relegated alongside Leeds – held talks with him around March/April time, but an agreement could not be reached.
Marsch has remained in the area of Yorkshire despite his exit from Leeds, and will no doubt be keen to return to the world of management soon.
He had looked destined to take over at the USMNT earlier this month but interest from Monaco could throw a spanner in the works, as it would enable him to continue in club management.
Frankly how Marsch would be able to land a job of the magnitude of Monaco is a mystery to many Leeds fans, but he can certainly talk a good game.
