Leeds United will not stand in the way of an exit for defender Junior Firpo following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
That is according to the Athletic, who report Leeds will actively be looking for buyers of Firpo this summer, with his wages among the highest at the club.
Firpo has struggled throughout the entirety of his two-year spell at Elland Road following his £12 million move from Barcelona in 2021.
Leeds had hoped the 26-year-old would be the answer to their constant left-back problems, but in the end only added to their problems due to constant injuries and poor form.
Firpo did see a slight improvement in performances around the time of Javi Gracia’s arrival, but ultimately defensive mistakes continued to plague him and Leeds are now looking to sell after relegation.
Firpo to be allowed to leave Leeds
Leeds are looking to bolster their options at left back this summer and Swansea City’s Ryan Manning is someone who has already been linked, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.
The Whites also have talented teenager Leo Hjelde returning from his loan spell at Rotherham United, while Max Wober can too play there.
That would deem Firpo surplus to requirements at Elland Road and his current wages make it essential to get him off the books at Leeds.
He is one of a host of players seemingly heading for the exit door in the coming weeks as Leeds look to rebuild a squad capable of an immediate return to the Premier League.
The addition of Manning would represent an immediate upgrade for the second tier on Firpo, with the Swansea star having scored five goals and provided 10 assists last season.
