The Scottish Sun report that Leeds United are planning to hand Stuart McKinstry a new contract as reward for his impressive form north of the border, while on loan at Motherwell. McKinstry’s deal expires at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old joined Leeds from Motherwell back in the summer of 2019. He has since gone on to play 44 times in all competitions for the club’s Under-21 side – having a hand in 10 goals. He has even made his senior Leeds debut.
But with his path into the senior side blocked into the Leeds first team, he rejoined Motherwell on loan. It has seen him become a regular in his boyhood club’s first team, playing 11 times – and even scoring two goals for The Well.
That included a gorgeous free-kick against Rangers, before netting the week after against Aberdeen. His form has even seen him win the Player of the Month award at Motherwell for October. Now, Leeds are planning to reward him.
The report claims that Leeds have been impressed with his form. Given his deal ends in June, plans to extend his stay are in place. It will be interesting to see if McKinstry is open to extending his stay in Yorkshire, or decide to leave.

Leeds planning to hand McKinstry a new contract
The right move from Leeds – but is it the right move for McKinstry. His form in Scotland has been impressive, but is staying at Leeds really the best for his career? The rise of Crysencio Summerville will both encourage, and deter him.
He will be encouraged by Summerville’s ability to rise from the 21’s, where he played alongside the Dutchman, to become a first-team regular. But now, Summerville is blocking his path. The same goes for new signing Willy Gnonto.
Leeds also boast new signing Luis Sinisterra and the ever-present Jack Harrison. So, while Leeds are planning to keep him and offer a new deal, it might be best for McKinstry that he rejects and looks for pastures new – staying at Fir Park.
He is certainly having an impression back at Motherwell, with Steven Hammell recently describing him as “fabulous”.
