The Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that Leeds United outcast Jamie Shackleton won the bleep test last week at Thorp Arch as pre-season starts to heat up – earning the best score and not for the first time, doing so last year.

The Athletic reported last summer that 23-year-old Shackleton, who spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Millwall in the Championship, secured the best score last summer before his move to London. This summer, he did it again.

Shackleton is renowned for his supreme fitness. In some areas in which he does lack, perhaps his overall technical ability and his aerial prowess, the versatile ace is incredibly and naturally fit. He put that on show again this summer.

Indeed, the YEP report that Shackleton – who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Elland Road – was the player to win the Leeds bleep test last week at Thorp Arch. It remains to be seen what will happen this summer.

Shackleton is likely to have a whole heap of interest in him from Championship clubs. While he did not start all of his 37 games for Millwall, and was largely introduced as a sub – he offers versatility, and experience in this division.

Will Daniel Farke decide to keep him? Well, it would not be the end of the world. He is the ideal kind of player to have on the bench. Great attitude, excellent fitness – as the bleep test results show, again – and his incredible versatility.

He is able to play as a right-back, a wing-back, in a number of central midfield roles and perhaps, even as a right winger. Shackleton’s agent recently said that it is likely he will look to find a new club for the Leeds star this summer.
