Leeds United have now given Diego Llorente to the ‘go-ahead’ to return to AS Roma on loan.
That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports Llorente is now ready to join the Europa League finalists for a second loan spell, though the two clubs are continuing to work on an option-to-buy.
It was reported earlier this week that Llorente has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Roma ahead of his move back to the Stadio Olimpico.
Llorente spent the final six months of last season on loan in the Italian capital after completing a deadline day switch in January, a deal which included an option-to-buy of around £18 million.
However, almost immediately that was deemed too high by Roma and as such, the two clubs returned to the negotiating table to find a solution.
Leeds give Llorente the OK to return to Roma
With the terms of a loan deal now agreed, it appears as though the only thing left to decide is whether there will be another permanent option, and for how much.
It has been clear throughout the last few weeks that Llorente’s preference has always been a return to Roma, even with clubs in his native homeland of Spain keen.
That interest is what has reportedly slowed down Roma’s deal for Llorente, though these latest reports indicate the deal is now in the final straight.
Llorente impressed in his initial loan spell at Roma and despite the addition of Evan Ndicka, they have continued to push hard find a compromise on a fresh agreement.
As far as Leeds are concerned, the sooner Llorente is off the wage bill the better, with this having been a deal that has rumbled on for some time now.
