Diego Llorente’s potential return to AS Roma from Leeds United has been delayed due to interest from Spain.
That is according to Leeds Live, who report while Llorente is keen on a move back to Roma, clubs from his native homeland are also looking to sign him this summer.
Reports in the Italian press had indicated a move back to the Stadio Olimpico was all but agreed after Roma returned to the table to negotiate a cheaper transfer.
Llorente made the loan switch to the Italian capital on deadline day in January, a deal which included an option-to-buy of £18 million, which Roma were unable to meet.
Leeds are thought to have facilitated another loan deal for the 29-year-old to return to Roma, which has been his preference throughout the summer.
Llorente move ‘slowed down’ by Spanish interest
Despite these claims from Italy, reports from England are now stating Llorente has interest from back in Spain, which has caused the deal to slow down.
Llorente is a Spanish international and had spent the entirety of his career in his homeland up until moving to Leeds back in the summer of 2020 from Real Sociedad.
That said, it is thought that Llorente’s preference remains a move back to Roma, where he enjoyed a positive second half of the season under Jose Mourinho.
He made 12 appearances across all competitions, helping the club reach the final of the Europa League, where they were beaten on penalties by Sevilla.
Llorente has widely reported to have made an instant impact in the dressing room at Roma and it is for that reason they are so determined to bring him back.
