Report: Leeds exit ‘inevitable’ for ‘quality’ Cody Drameh, deal likely before pre-season

The Yorkshire Evening Post say defender Cody Drameh is likely to leave Leeds United on a permanent basis before pre-season begins this summer, with a transfer deemed ‘inevitable’ from those in and around Drameh’s camp.

Drameh, 21, has been superb since joining Luton on loan in January. Much like last season in which he joined Cardiff in the January window, winning the Player of the Season award – Drameh has sparkled during his 12 Luton outings.

In his 12 games, Drameh has helped Luton win eight times – helping the Hatters keep eight clean sheets. Luton are currently in third place in the Championship table and look good to finish in the top six. His Leeds deal ends in 2024.

Luton boss Rob Edwards says he has been “quality”. So, it might be that Drameh plays another eight times for Luton before the end of the season – if Luton achieve a place in the play-off final. The YEP share an update on his future.

They say that a permanent exit is ‘inevitable’ and that a move away from Leeds for good, is likely to happen before pre-season returns. Of course, it remains unclear what Leeds want to do if the club do suffer relegation this season.

Drameh likely to leave Leeds on a permanent basis before pre-season

The issue for Leeds and Drameh is that the club are well-stocked on the right. Luke Ayling is first choice despite criticism of late – especially, after the 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Rasmus Kristensen’s form has been up and down.

But both remain above Drameh in the pecking order. Ayling will always be given preference especially after penning a new deal until June 2024 – while Kristensen is a new signing and time will be given to the Dane to adapt properly.

So, for Leeds and Drameh, the only real solution this summer is a permanent move away from the club. With his deal ending next summer, this summer represents the only chance Leeds have of bringing in a fee for his services.

Reports earlier on in the day said that Tyler Roberts is more than likely to complete a permanent move to loan side QPR, if they stay up. Now, it looks as if Drameh will be leaving Leeds for good, joining Roberts in departing the club.
