TeamTalk claim that Leeds United are ‘closing in’ on the signing of Birmingham City midfielder George Hall with Mateusz Klich heading the opposite direction – leaving Leeds after almost six years, to join Wayne Rooney’s DC United.

Tom Bogert reported last week that Klich, 32, is set to leave Leeds and move to the MLS. That is, despite his winning goal in a friendly against Elche – to win the Festa d’Elx Trophy. It comes after a lack of game time this season.

That lack of game time ended Klich’s chances of achieving a place in Poland’s World Cup squad. Understandably, he is now set to go – teaming up with Christian Benteke, Ravel Morrison and Rooney. Leeds need a replacement for Klich.

Indeed, Leeds are now expected to bring Hall to the club. The eight-time England Under-18 international has clocked up 20 senior appearances for Birmingham City. Of which, 18 has come this season. But Leeds are set to get him.

It comes after The Mail reported in the summer that Newcastle were also interested in Hall. But it appears that Leeds are now set to complete a move to land the Birmingham midfielder. It is likely he starts at Leeds in the Under-23 side.

Leeds do have other options in the middle of the park. Obviously, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams are first choice – but the club still have Adam Forshaw who is back from injury. Sam Greenwood can play in that role, or as cover in the 10 role.

With Klich primarily used under Jesse Marsch as a 10, behind Brenden Aaronson, Greenwood is likely to take a step up the rankings with Klich departing. For Hall, he will be at the bottom of that list – even behind Darko Gyabi in the 21’s.

So, plenty to do for Hall to get back to playing regular first-team football like he is at Birmingham, if he does join Leeds. But, he will have every chance if he shines for the 21’s, given our faith in youth.
