MLS reporter Tom Bogert has taken to Twitter to report that Wayne Rooney’s DC United are about to complete a move to sign Leeds United star Mateusz Klich – less than 24 hours after his gorgeous goal against La Liga outfit Elche.
Klich, 32, curled in a wonderful effort as Leeds came from behind to beat Elche. The Poland international came off the bench to score the winner, after Joe Gelhardt had equalised. A beautiful effort, that won the Festa d’Elx trophy.
Following the game, Jesse Marsch kept the door open over a move for Klich – stating there “had been some” talks regarding his future. The midfielder has failed to start a single match for Leeds in the Premier League this season.
Now, it appears he will be the move in January. Tom Bogert, an MLS reporter, claims that Klich is closing in on a move to Rooney’s DC United and while a deal is yet to be 100% confirmed – but DC are “finalising” a transfer for Klich.
Rooney’s DC United about to complete move to sign Leeds star Klich
Klich needed to go, unfortunately. Ideally for Leeds and the club’s support, keeping him on side as back-up made sense. But Klich is a player that wants to play – clocking up 192 games for the Whites since joining the club in 2017.
The midfielder has a contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2024. But having missed out on the World Cup squad, he will be desperate to play for a side good enough to show he can make the Poland squad for Euro 2024.
A move to DC will see Klich link up with one of Manchester United’s best-ever players, and all-time top goalscorer in Rooney. Christian Benteke and Ravel Morrison have been brought to the club since Rooney took over.
