Jesse Marsch has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that midfielder Mateusz Klich could leave Leeds United in the January transfer window and the club have had “some conversations” regarding the Poland star’s future at Elland Road.
Klich, 32, scored the winner for Leeds on Thursday night against Elche to win the Festa d’Elx Trophy. It comes after a frustrating six months for Klich, who missed out on a place in Poland’s World Cup squad after a lack of game time.
Indeed, Klich made 11 Premier League appearances for Leeds before the break – but none from the start. He has started only twice this season, scoring a brace against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup before a defeat to Wolves.
On Thursday, Klich was once again on the bench – but came on to score a wondergoal from 25 yards. Trademark Klich, curling an effort into the top corner. Marsch was asked after his goal about the midfielder’s future at Elland Road.
“It’s not totally clear yet. We should hold off on saying anything about it. Obviously, there’s been some conversations but nothing’s concrete. There’s a lot of love for Mateusz in the group. He’s an incredible person. So we like him.”

Klich has 18 months remaining on his £34,000 a week deal. So, if Leeds were to sell him in January, a fee would be required to land the Polish star – even if it is somewhat nominal. In an ideal world, Leeds would keep him as back-up.
But Klich has given his all to Leeds. He has clocked up 192 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Marcelo Bielsa’s side that got Leeds promoted. So, he owes Leeds nothing and in fact, Leeds owe him the right to make his own decision.
As things stand, it might be best for Klich to search for pastures new. Sam Greenwood is able to provide cover for Brenden Aaronson in the 10 role, and there are a number of options deeper in midfield. It could be that Klich departs.
