Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo – or Roma themselves – did not get their wish on deadline day as the Leeds United target remained at the club, instead of leaving and now, his family have contacted lawyers over suing Jose Mourinho’s side.
Zaniolo, 23, was strongly linked with Leeds. Numerous reports, mostly emerging from Italy, claimed that Leeds were among the clubs keen on the Italy star. Italian outlet CM said Zaniolo was keen to join Leeds – but there was an issue.
Roma wanted to sell Zaniolo permanently. If they were to let him go on loan, they were requesting an obligatory clause rather than an option. Leeds were offering the latter. He rejected Bournemouth, but changed his mind over a move.
However, Bournemouth had already spent big amounts of cash in the time Zaniolo had rejected a move before his u-turn. So, the Cherries rejected a move. Ultimately, Roma preventing a loan-to-buy deal has seen £26.5m Zaniolo stay.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero detail the aftermath. They say that it is ‘impossible’ Zaniolo’s relationship with Roma and Mourinho will recover. He might not play for Roma again, and step foot on the pitch until the summer at a new club.
Family of Leeds target Zaniolo have contacted lawyers over suing Roma
AC Milan remain keen. The situation though, is not a healthy one. He has received death threats. Roma supporters have turned up at his home. Now, his family have contacted lawyers to consider suing Roma, with his parents angered.
They believe Roma are to blame for his situation – or what Il Messaggero describe, as a ‘media massacre’. Mobbing and psychological pressure are two accusations the family could put to Roma. A situation that is currently developing.
As things stand, Zaniolo has returned to his parents and may not return to the club until next week. A statement from the player is expected in the next few days. Roma are aware of the situation and are keeping close tabs on it.
