Italian outlet Sportal claims Serie A side Torino have identified the man they want to replace Leeds United target Sasa Lukic in the January window – and it is a player Leeds fans will know well, in the form of Cagliari terrier Nahitan Nandez.
In the summer of 2021, we covered reports from Italian outlet La Nuova Sardegna that Leeds were willing to sanction a move for Nandez. It is said we were willing to pay his £30m clause. His agent confirmed Leeds talks 18 months ago.
But a move did not materialise. Nandez, 26, has since been relegated to the second tier of Italian football. The 49-time Uruguay international is clearly playing at a level below his quality, and has a deal at Cagliari until the summer of 2024.
Torino are looking to bring in a replacement for Serbia’s World Cup star Lukic. Italian outlet Torino Granata report that Leeds are ‘above all’ with previous reports claiming that Manchester United and Jose Mourinho’s Roma are also keen.

Swings and roundabouts. Leeds have moved on from Nandez, a player Marcelo Bielsa clearly liked – especially, given the South American connection. Now, they are looking at Lukic and at £13million, he would be a bargain for Leeds.
Marc Roca has been good, but not great. Jesse Marsch may feel he wants competition for the ex-Bayern Munich man in the middle of the park alongside Tyler Adams. Lukic would certainly do that, judging by his form at the World Cup.
One of Serbia’s shining lights, Lukic certainly showed the world what he is capable of. Victor Orta will have been keeping a keen eye. Now, it is a boost that Torino are looking for replacements. A surprise, that it could be Nandez.
