Report: Club want to keep 23-year-old amid Leeds interest; but need to balance books with sales

West Bromwich Albion would ideally like to keep Leeds United target Jayson Molumby, but will need to sell players to balance the books this summer.

That is according to a report from the Express and Star following claims at the weekend that the Whites are monitoring the 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

It was The Sun on Sunday who reported that Leeds are interested in Molumby as they look to add greater steel to their options in the middle of the park.

Molumby has been a key player for the Baggies since his move from Brighton. And he went on to score four goals and contribute four assists for Carlos Corberan’s side last season.

Unsurprisingly, it seems that West Brom want to hold onto the youngster heading into the new campaign.

According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom ideally want to keep Molumby this summer. However, the club have to balance the books through player sales. So a serious offer is likely to be considered.

Much may come down to Molumby’s stance on possibly leaving for Elland Road – if Leeds make a reasonable offer for the midfielder.

He has a key role at the Hawthorns. And he may want to see what more of the plans are at Leeds before he considers joining the Whites.

Right now, it probably would be a gamble for many to join the side. Some will be happy to take that risk because Leeds’ stay in the second tier should – hopefully – be brief. But others will want to see who is appointed as the new manager, as well as getting a better idea of which players are set to move on.
